Monitor is extremely pleased to introduce our readers to its first annual leadership awards. Deborah and I work at opposite ends of the corporate spectrum; I run an independent small ticket equipment finance company, and she runs Worldwide Leasing and Financing at HP. However, we share both a passion for and long tenures in the industry and are strong believers in positive recognition for hard work, good ethics, and a long record of professional achievement.

The last time Monitor profiled Adam Warner, he had just taken the reins of Key Equipment Finance, and the industry had yet to be rocked by the Great Recession. Today, as Monitor’s inaugural Veteran Icon Award winner, Warner shares the vital lessons he has learned over the last decade.

Innovation Finance may be a young company, but its effects on the equipment finance industry have already been felt, both through its deep bench of industry experience and its innovative software solutions. Mark Tomaselli, Monitor’s choice for its Disruptor Icon, embodies both aspects of the company.
Standing at the forefront of a changing financial industry, this year’s Monitor Next Generation Icon winner Kara Miyasato has established herself as a prominent voice for emerging talent in equipment leasing and finance. Reflecting on her work at Stryker, she talks of the ways companies can embrace new and more diverse voices in order to push the business forward.
Though companies have been preparing for ASC 842 and IFRS 16, the new lease accounting standards, for three years, it’s only in 2019 that they’ve started to go into effect. It’s therefore no surprise they dominated the conversation at the ELFA Lease and Finance Accounting Conference, held this past September in Chicago.
